Whether it’s a tradition in your family to barbecue for the holiday or you’ve opted to do things a little differently this holiday season by having a festive barbecue, here are a few tips to keep holiday grilling safer.

Tip #1 - Always keep your outdoor grill or FireDisc Grill – outdoors.

Tip #2 - Keep a fire extinguisher on-hand. You never know.

Tip #3 - Remember to grill a safe distance away from your home, the deck to your home, and any nearby trees or brush. See picture.

Tip #4 - Make sure the kids and any household pets do not get close to the grill while in operation.

Tip #5 - Always, make sure that the grill or Fire Disc Grill is clean before you fire it up. It’s easier to do this if you clean it after each use.

Tip #6 - Avoid leaving your grill unattended.

Tip #7 - If you haven’t used your grill in a while, do a quick check to make sure the grill’s gas tank hose is free of any leaks. The NFPA recommends doing this once annually.

Tip #8 - Make sure food is cooked thoroughly before consumption and avoid placing cooked food on cookware or dinnerware that has been exposed to raw meats.

Tip #9 - Avoid grilling while intoxicated or drinking alcohol.

Tip #10 - For charcoal grills, make sure to use extreme care while lighting the coals with lighter fluid to avoid injury.
