According to etymologists, the word is believed to originate from the words "barbacoa" and the word "barbicu."
Barbacoa is an American-Indian word while the word barbicu is commonly used in the Caribbean’s by the Taino people. The Oxford English Dictionary says that the word traces back to Haiti. Each word basically means the same thing; a framework of wood to cook food on outdoors. The word can be used as a noun, adjective, and a verb when referring to both goods and camping grills.
