Spectacular simplicity – that’s the beauty of a FIREDISC® cooker.

They’re instead spending time perfecting techniques for delicious meals – and learning and sharing with and from the pros in the Facebook FIREDISC® owners group. (Are you in? What is FIREDISC®?
It’s a portable propane cooker, in the old plow disc style. It’s versatile, easy to haul, and cooks it all. With power from a propane tank, FIREDISC can fry, grill, simmer, sear, boil, sautee – just about any cooking technique you’d like. It’s made of ultra-high carbon steel and are a snap to clean and store.
Tips and tricks for FIREDISC users
How to put a good sear on
Those famous grill marks you see on steaks are actually an indication that it could have been cooked better. The Maillard reaction causes the darker portions and indicates a perfect sear to your meat.
But if it’s perfect, why not have more of it? Searing on a FIREDISC® gives you that. Crank your ‘disc to high heat, and lightly place the meat in the center. Don’t touch it until it’s time to flip, usually 3-5 minutes, depending on the thickness of the cut. Leave it alone until it’s time to flip, so you don’t let loose the good juices before it’s time.
How to test a steak’s doneness
There’s a complex and incredible tool that can test steak doneness: your hand. For all these tests, press a finger to your thumb in an okay sign, and press the skin at the base of this hand with your other hand’s pointer finger.
RARE | Press your pointer fingertip and thumb tip together. Press the base of your thumb on that hand with your other pointer finger. That’s how a rare steak should feel.
MEDIUM RARE | Press your middle fingertip and thumb tip together. Press the base of your thumb on that hand with your other pointer finger. That’s how a medium-rare steak should feel.
MEDIUM WELL | Press your ring fingertip and thumb tip together. Press the base of your thumb on that hand with your other pointer finger. That’s how a medium-well steak should feel.
WELL DONE | Press your pinky fingertip and thumb tip together. Press the base of your thumb on that hand with your other pointer finger. That’s how a well-done steak should feel.
How to keep grilled food warm
You can make an entire meal in a FIREDISC®.
If you’re preparing a dish with meat and vegetables, such as fajitas or paella, cook the meat in the center of the ‘disc until done. Then push it all toward the FIREDISC® perimeter – this is the low heat zone, perfect also for warming up tortillas and toasting buns.
You can then sautee your onions, peppers, or other veggies in the center, with a dash of oil. If the food will mix for the dish, simply bring the meat back down to the center and combine it all.
