What are the origins of Halloween?
You can trace its roots back to Samhain, the old Celtic festival. Folks lit bonfires and wore costumes to scare away spirits. All Saints Day was Nov. 1, and it soon took on some of the practices of Samhain. The Day of the Dead, All Saints Day, and Halloween assumed common themes.
