4 tips to the perfect tailgate

No game-day experience is complete without the tailgate.

Good food, great friends. Strong energy, a few drinks, and maybe even some cornhole bags and horseshoes flying. It’s not an exaggeration to say there’s an urge to tailgate that revs up mid-summer. If you’re in FIREDISC® Nation, you’re likely the one who sets up the plot from the start, let’s be honest.

Here are tips for getting the setup just right. Now, if your team’s coach could only do the same.

Tailgate tips from FIREDISC®

  1. Make a game plan

Championship seasons begin with a great plan, and so do successful tailgates. Check with the stadium for policies about alcohol, glass containers, and live cannons. You know, whatever your tailgate entails. Set your menu and identify those in your tailgate posse who are best at desserts, drinks, music, and more.

Use this formula for success:*

  • ARRIVE four hours before kickoff
  • EAT two hours before kickoff to give you plenty of time to clean up before the game

*These guidelines don’t apply to tailgates at Louisiana State University. For those, arrive at sunrise, even for a primetime kickoff.

PRO TIP: Keep a toolbox in your vehicle with tailgating essentials, such as:

  • Basting brush
  • Can and bottle opener
  • Cooking fork
  • Condiments
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Insect repellant
  • Lighter
  • Matches
  • Mini flashlight
  • Permanent marker
  • Poncho
  • Spatula
  • Sunscreen
  • Tongs
  • Toothpicks
  • Trashbags
  • Whisk
  • Wipes
  • Wooden skewers
  1. Mark your space

Like your mighty mascot, you need to define your space and keep intruders out. Park so that your automobile’s rear end faces the tailgate area, and pull up as far as possible. Set your perimeter with chairs, coolers, tables, and tents to keep the home team in and the visitors out.

  1. Stay cool

Cold drinks are essential, so bring plenty of coolers for beer, juice, soda, water, and more. Label them so guests don’t have to dig through juice boxes for a wine cooler. You’ll need ice to last at least four hours, too.

  1. Put the FIREDISC® in the middle of it all

There’s a reason they say to gather ‘round. Unlike a blocky gas grill, a FIREDISC® cooker is round and comfortable as the center of attention. Throw some of these delicious recipes on it and see what happens.
