Brunch doesn’t care if you comb your hair. To brunch, it doesn’t matter if the batter splatters. For brunch, you can sleep in, stumble in, and dig in.
(Brunch can also be elegant, we realize — and FIREDISC® is good for that scene, too.)
Breakfast food? Welcome for brunch. Lunch favorites? Come on down. There are no rules when it comes to brunch items, only that you have your fill.
What makes it brunch, though?
It’s the obvious love child of breakfast and lunch. Without a form of alcoholic drink, it just feels disingenuous. The English first began brunching in the late 19th century. America followed suit by the 1930s. And perfected it, if you ask us. #merica
Tips for a beautiful brunch
It’s hard to imagine, but brunch can go badly if you let it.
Don’t tell anyone, send out invitations, even text the word “brunch” to anyone. Pick a date, and give yourself from seven days to a week to prepare. Winging it might sound like a great idea, but trust us on this one.
Bust out the buffet
Buffet-style is a bit of a mainstay for brunch, and what better way to enjoy the riches? Plus you won’t be waiting on your guests — everything they need is “over yonder.” Relax, enjoy the company, have another Bloody Mary, and repeat.
Look into logistics
Grazers, particularly those who didn’t have the vision to have breakfast first, will move in herds. Clearly mark the beginning and end, give them space, and plenty of seating. You might even put food on a few tables.
Prep it like you mean it
Stuff you can put out the night before:
- Cocktail glasses
- Coffee mugs
When the food hits the plate, that’s too late. Also, get the Bloody Mary and Mimosa mixed up. You’ll avoid scrambling for orange juice minutes before your guests arrive.
Time it right
Noon is best. You’ll have time for last-minute prep (and a light breakfast!) without having to wake up before sunrise. This also makes lunch items appropriate and expected.
